Other Areas of Expertise

iSettle offers besides coaching programmes also Learning and Development Solutions that work! See below for some examples of innovative and thought-provoking past achievements:

Leadership Development

  • Currently developing a Leadership Development Programme for one of the business units within NZ Police, consisting of a role analysis activity, review of a Management Team task performed in the past, Team profiles / team roles, Team coaching of a new task, and Team development / team cooperation.
  • Designed and developed a capability development programme for Supervisors (5th tier and first time managers), including a manual, online resources (in Moodle), and a mixture of self-paced and collaborative learning activities.

Professional Development of staff

  • Coordinated training activities related to the use of an electronic learning environment (Blackboard) of 650 staff members of a Government Training Organisation. I delivered the training at 3 different campuses myself and contracted external trainers to cover a large part of the delivery for the other campuses.
  • Developed and delivered various training programmes for teachers on the use of technologies for their (distance) teaching practice.
  • Coordinated Teaching Development Programmes (a programme to get the National Certificate to teach in Higher Education) within a Government Training Organisation and a University.

E-learning & blended learning

  • Provided advice on the design, development and good practices of various course websites to enhance the learning process of students.
  • In the role of instructional designer advised on the design and development of an interactive cd-rom on the use of beacon-based software used to chase criminal offenders by car.
  • Conducted a comparative research to identify the best suitable electronic learning environment for a Government Training Organisation, which at the time was Blackboard. The Board approved the choice for Blackboard as the backbone of their E-Campus and I wrote the implementation plan, and later on the functional design. During the implementation phase I was one of the system administrators.

Competency-based learning

  • Developed a competency-based staff development framework for academic teachers, including the supporting structures.
To develop this new organisation-wide competency framework I facilitated focus groups at all the organisation's campuses in a parallel process. I led these groups through the process of identifying absolute critical situations which academic staff commonly face in their role. These critical situations formed the basis for new competency profiles for all levels of academic staff and resulted in case studies for a new teacher training programme.
  • Supported teachers in designing competency-based education (authentic, relevant, with the aim to engage students).
  • Guided curriculum development teams of a Government Training Organisation through the process of competency-based curriculum redesign. My teams covered the area of 'traffic accidents' and all related assignments, assessments and learning materials for three levels of the profession this curriculum trained for. The complete Academy curricula had to be redeveloped and this was organised as a parallel process in all 8 Academy campuses.

Strategy

  • Coordinated the scoping of a new organisation-wide 5-year Programme 'ICT in Education 2005-2010' at a University. This programme focused on internal and external developments and their translation into opportunities for the use of ICT in education, providing one umbrella for all existing strategic plans and projects related to this. Under my supervision the scoping team (10 staff) performed internal and external research to identify and justify the 5 strategic themes within the Programme, which were:
  • Professional development of staff & user support,
  • Improved quality of education, with projects, pilots and experiments around the following topics: Digital didactics, Online student enrolment, Digital portfolio, Assessment / recognition of prior learning / tests & exams, Virtual company, Video and multimedia.
  • Knowledge Management, with projects, pilots and experiments around the following topics: Circulation of knowledge, Accessibility of knowledge, Storage and re-use of learning materials, HRM knowledge system, Effective and efficient use of Blackboard.
  • E-learning for new target groups, with projects, pilots and experiments around the following topics: Life-long learning, Internationalisation.
  • Development of a vision on ICT in education.
  • The project budget of NZ$2m. allowed all 17 Schools to submit tenders for projects, pilots and experiments fitting within one or more of the strategic themes. I wrote the programme plan, which got approved by the University Board. I visited all 17 Schools to identify submissions for the first round of tenders, and worked in close relationship with the IT Services Department and all Academic Advisors in the Schools to align the proposals with the Programme themes. The Programme's steering committee decided which projects got the 'green' light.

Project Management

  • Managed aspects of the implementation of a new online enrolment system at a University, in all 17 Schools of this University in a very tight timeframe of 6 months. With my project team of 5 staff and 1 project facilitation officer we realised the corporate communication and hands-on training for all prospective users of the system, including the development of supporting materials. I took responsibility for the evaluation of our implementation approach by visiting all 17 Schools for a review.
  • Managed two 'Grassroots' Projects at two different organisations. Grassroots was a National project (in The Netherlands) designed for teachers to develop their learning of the effective integration and use of technology in the classroom. The results were that the projects successfully facilitated 30 participating teachers over a period of 10 months with a budget of NZ$50,000 at the one organisation and 25 participating teachers in a period of 12 months with a budget of NZ$120,000 in the other organisation.
